Winter Advisory
San Antonio (January 16, 2025)

Potential for Snow or Ice

The San Antonio area will be experiencing  Alert Days beginning Sunday evening through Wednesday.  We encourage staff and clients to watch the weather daily to be up to date on the latest weather forecast. Here is the latest update from News4 San Antonio.

“The first night of freeze conditions will be Saturday night in and around San Antonio but more of a light freeze in duration and intensity. Temperatures likely will drop to or just below freezing for 3 to 4 hours.”

“The following nights will have high potential for widespread hard freeze conditions in our region between length of time at or below freezing and how much of a drop we’ll see (20s). The afternoon hours for the first half of next week will struggle to warm and stay in the 30s. In fact, we may see a record cold high temperature Tuesday in the low 30s (record is 35 – 1978). This is a dangerously cold stretch for our area and we’ll need to watch for hypothermia or frostbite issues for those spending any length of time outdoors.”

There is a potential for snow or ice in our area Tuesday morning, 1/21/2025.

Preparation Includes the Following:

  1. Monitor the news for the changing weather.
  2. Make sure you have non-perishable food and water. You should have one gallon of water per day.
  3. Ensure your home is insulated and wrap exposed pipes to prevent freezing and bursts.
  4. Make sure to keep your phone charged, your eyeglasses with you, and a flashlight in case the power goes out.
  5. If you have a car the gas tank should be full and you should have an emergency kit in your car which has batteries, a battery powered radio, first aid supplies, blankets, jumper cables, non-perishable food,  (shovel and ice scraper if needed) and essential medications.
  6. Dress in layers of warm clothing when needed, hat, gloves, and scarf.
  7. Pets should have access to warm shelter and plenty of food and water.
  8. Limit outdoor activities to essential needs.
  9. Never heat a home with a cooktop or oven, charcoal grill or gasoline or propane heater indoors as these items cause electric shock and or cause deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.  Also, keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything flammable, keep children at least 3 feet away from space heaters, turn space heaters off when you go to bed or leave the room.  Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets.
